Prayer for Maruti Kantine, his family, the new church he is leading

29 01 2012

Please be in prayer for Maruti (pastor) Kantine and the new church in Makhoabateng/Ha Tselabeli.  Here are the specific prayer requests from Jim Flora on his family’s blog from Lesotho.

Please continue to pray for this brand new church.

Pray that the new believers grow in their faith.

Pray that Moruti Kantine preaches the Word with boldness.

Pray that God uses this church to reach the surrounding villages.

Today, Sunday, January 29, the first day of the church at Makhoabateng/Ha Tselabeli.

Praise the Lord!

Worship, Baptis…

Worship, Baptism, Fellowship and Evangelism Training

Today, Sunday, was a great way to finish our time in the Katse area.  We worshipped with about 150 people at Khokhoba Baptist Church.  There were people representing several villages today.  We presented Kantine a Bible and a Bible cover as he prepares to begin leading the new church plant at Makhoabateng and Ha Tselabedi next Sunday, the 29th.  Jim, Rodney, Johan, Maruti Molapo and I prayed over Kantine.  Then, Teresa, Maruti Molapo’s wife, Carolyn, Carol and Libby prayed over Kantine’s wife as she prepares to support her husband in the new church.  Jim preached today and then we headed out for the baptism.  There were 19 people baptized today representing a number of villages that the Floras work in.  It was so exciting to see so many showing their faithfulness to follow through with the symbol of their decision with baptism.  The people sang the people into and out of the baptismal waters. After the baptism we joined with some of the women from the church to serve a meal of papa, moroho (greens), chickes and beans to everyone.  We then met with all of the adults in the hall for evangelism training while Katy led the children outside.  It was a great time of encouraging and challenging the people to go out and share the gospel in the Maluti Mountains.

This week has been amazing.  God has moved over and over again.  A little over 1,000 people heard the Gospel this week.  Four women received Christ this week.  19 people were baptized.  Men continue to study, to learn and prepare to be leaders and possibly pastors in the villages.  Women continue to grow in their knowledge of the Lord.  The kids continue to hear the Gospel, learn more about the love of God and grow closer to making a decision for Christ.  How far God has brought the ministry in the Maluti Mountains from that first trip almost 3 years ago.  Thank you for joining us on this journey.

We head for Maseru tomorrow to minister at God’s Love Center orphanage with Me Neo and almost 40 children.  We will then head to Joburg to prepare to depart for Texas.  This will be the last blog until we arrive home on Friday afternoon.  Please continue to pray for travel safety, the ministry to the orphans, rest and listening to God as we prepare to return home.  Most of all pray for the Flora family, the pastors, the churches, the new believers and all that God is doing in Lesotho.

Blessings from the Lesotho Mission Team.

Two more sister…

21 01 2012

Two more sisters in Christ today!  Praise the Lord!  The women led a women’s conference at Makhoabane today.  They had 55 in attendance.  The men went to Makoabateng and played soccer, frisbee and others games with the bo bana (kids) before Rodney led the 13 bo ntates (men) in a Bible study.  Everyone did another wonderful job today allowing themselves to be used by our God to share His love and His promises with the Basotho.  Two women committed their lives to Christ today at the women’s conference.  One of the men, Mpete, from Ha Mapeke listened and studied intently as Rodney taught.  He highlighted and marked the scriptures that were shared in His Bible.  He is a new believer.  Exciting things are taking place in Ha Mapeke and all over the Maluti Mountains.

Tomorrow we will go just a few blocks from our guest house to the Katse Hall to worship with the Khokhoba Baptist Church led my Maruti Molapo.  Jim Flora will be preaching.  We will then move to the swimming pool for baptisms!  This was not originally planned, but developed in the last few days because of the decisions and their desire to be baptized.  Their is the potential of up to 20 people being baptized tomorrow.  Praise the Lord!  We will then eat lunch (probably almost supper) with the church and then lead in an evangelism conference while Katy teaches the children.  Tomorrow is our last day of teaching in the mountains before we travel to Maseru to minister to the children and leaders at God’s Love Center Orphanage.

Pray for continued strength for the team and for the new believers as they take this important step in showing their commitment to follow Christ through baptism.  Pray that the people will understand and have an excitement about sharing Christ with their friends, family and neighbors in the villages.  Thank you for your continued prayers.

Happy 13th Birt…

20 01 2012

Happy 13th Birthday Anna

Today was a very special day in Lesotho.  Anna turned 13.  What a privilege for us to spend this special day with her.  She is such a precious and beautiful creation of God.  She serves so faithfully along with her sisters and her parents.  She is the BEST bread maker around!!!  WOW!!!

We headed to Bokong Primary School this morning.  We were greeted by almost 400 amazing children.  They range from the crèche (preschool) to Standard 7 (not sure what grade this is…).  We sang the familiar “Making Melodies” as they were gathering and then introduced ourselves.  Carolyn introduced the theme of love for the day and we sang a song about God’s love…how tall, how wide, how deep and how long.  We told them that our prayer was that they would understand God’s love for each of them through the words we shared with them.  Our team acted out the story of Jonah alongside Johan our good friend from Bloemfontein, South Africa.  Carolyn closed with the plan of salvation and then Stan prayed over the kids and the teachers.  We presented the teachers with Sesotho Bibles before the kids were dismissed back to their rooms.  We then delivered a school bag to each and every student.  They were so excited.  Some wiggled, some squealed, and many, many of them just smiled.  They will now be able to carry their things on their long walks from home to school and back.  Thank you to Vivian and the others that made the bags.  You were a blessing to these kids today.

This afternoon we headed to Khoklo-ntso to Maruti (Pastor) Phoka and Me MaNeo’s home.  Phoka had sent Me MaNeo on an errand so that our team could redecorate their bedroom.  The women hung new curtains, hung a picture, made the bed with a new coverlet, shams and pillows, placed a rug at the entrance, displayed a beautiful red vase and flowers and a picture of their five children.  All of these items were provided by FBC Perryton’s Adult 2 and 3 class. THANK YOU!  I wish you could have seen Me MaNeo’s face when she walked into her newly redecorated room.  She was in absolute amazement and filled with joy and happiness.  She could NOT quit smiling.  She looked at each item, held the flowers and just smiled and smiled as she looked at the picture of her children.

It was a wonderful day.  Love was brought to the school children at Bokong and joy and happiness was brought to Me MaNeo and Phoka.  Another blessing was the rain.  It rained throughout the Katse region throughout the afternoon.  It smelled wonderful and was refreshing to the crops of the Basotho.

Tomorrow the women will lead another women’s conference at Makhoabane and the men will lead a men’s conference involving sports at Makhoabateng.  This is the village that Ntate Kantine will be leading the new church plant beginning January 29.

Thank you for your continued prayers and involvement in this mission.  You are a blessing.

Three Different…

Three Different Directions…All God’s Perfect Plan

Part 1, by Carolyn:  Sixteen women arrived today from seven different villages at our home in Katse this morning for Bible Study, “Guarding Your Heart.”  The women took notes, highlighted scripture in their Bibles, listened intently and answered questions as we studied many scriptures together.  God supplied all we needed as the numbers increased for this day and “He multiplied the fish and loaves” for lunch.  We sang and praised God together.  We sang songs in Sesotho and we sang songs in English that we taught the women a year ago.  It is an amazing thing to worship together in different languages.  Makes me think of the days of eternity we will spend together singing “ holy, holy, holy”.  The afternoon was spent making clay hearts – divided hearts, tender hearts and hard hearts!  We ended the day with prayer and singing.  An opportunity was given to all to stay and ask questions if any were interested in accepting Christ.  One young woman from Ha Mapike stayed.  Stan and I had the opportunity to talk with her, question her, and pray with her as she accepted Christ.  The amazing thing about this story is that another believer had already shared Christ with her and brought her to the Bible Study today!!  Exciting times.  The Lord is moving His mighty hand all over this area of the Maluti Mountains.   We had opportunity to witness it today.  Thanks for your prayers.  Please continue.  We know and feel  His presence.

Part 2, by Stan: 12 men and women from LHDA (Lesotho Highland Development Authority) were welcomed into Jim and Teresa’s home today for a wonderful meal of BLT sandwiches (with homemade bread made by Anna), potato soup, macaroni and cheese, meatballs, cheese and crackers.  They also enjoyed a wonderful peach cobbler prepared by Gracie.  After such a good meal we began a study on God’s love for us.  The men and women heard that God can take our broken, wounded and sinful lives and make them whole again with his grace and mercy.  They learned that God watches over them, loves them, cares for them and desires a relationship with them.  They listened well for the short time that we had.  Several of them had to leave for transport down the mountain to Maseru where they live right after we finished.  Right after they left, another 4 arrived.  We were not expecting them so we had to scramble a bit and dig through the pantry and refrigerator to come up with enough food.  They did not leave hungry, but it was an interesting mix of food.  We visited and shared with one another.  Pray that relationships will be built through this initial meeting over lunch today.  Pray, that if it be God’s will, that Jim would be able to lead a devotion each Wednesday at their early morning meeting.  Thank you for your prayers.  He is here.  He is moving.  Lives of the Basotho are changing.

Part 3, by Katy and Carol: Carol, Rodney, Libby, Malopo, Katy, and Jim all rode up to the village of Fukumela. It was a two hour ride one way.   It was absolutely a breathtaking ride to this village (elevation of 8,600 feet).    On the way to Fukumela we saw a sangoma’s (witch doctor) spring, which is a place that they use for worship.  We also saw two other sangomas’ houses.  We knew they were sangomas’  houses because they had a flag marking the four corners of the property.  Each flag is a different color.   We also saw a white flag flying, which indicated that fresh, brewed beer was for sale.  We also saw a 10’ tree limb forked at the top with a key in a bottle tied at the top.  This is supposed to keep lightning away.

When we arrived in the village of Fukumela, Rodney began to get off his horse, but his saddle fell to the side, causing him to fall and roll across several  yards of dung- covered  ground.  Once a few people gathered around, we began to present Creation to the Cross.  We only had about 22 people come because most of them were working in the fields.  This village is so remote and high up in the mountains, it has only been visited about six times.  We ended our visit by praying for the village.  We specifically prayed for the health of the people of this village and for much needed rain.   As we began to ride back to Katse, it started to sprinkle.  We all are hoping that Fukumela gets a good rain tonight or in the next few days to show that God answers prayer.  Our desire is that God will use the seeds planted today to draw people to Him.

Part 4, by the team: Tomorrow we will travel to the Bokong Primary School.  We taught at the Bokong Secondary School on an earlier trip.  We will share with them for an hour about Jonah and the miracles of Jesus.  Pray that they will receive a message from our Father through our teaching.  We will be distributing the school bags and pencils that several churches in Clarendon and Dumas have sewed for the kids.  After this, we will get to surprise Me MaNeo, Maruti (pastor) Phoka’s wife, with new bedroom decorations and accessories for her home.  These are provided by the Adult 2 and 3 Class from our church, FBC Perryton.  She is such a servant of the Lord and so deserving of this.  How excited she will be!  Thank you FBC Adult 2-3, FBC Clarendon, and the other churches involved with the school bags.  Talk to you tomorrow as you continue on this journey with us of reaching the Basotho in the Maluti Mountains.

This is Rodney …

18 01 2012

This is Rodney typing this story, so first I must say hi to all my girls at home….me and your mother love you and miss you very much.  However, I am certainly glad Emori allowed me to come because I wouldn’t have missed this for the world. Also glad Ciara is there to keep Emori.   Whitney and Mallori, keep checking on them. This is an amazing place.  The country is absolutely beautiful but the people live such a rough life.  What a way to keep me grounded.  My life will definitely be changed forever!!!!!

The day started as always with breakfast, devotional, and preparation for the day’s activity. Jim Flora and I took out to gather men for the men’s conference.  We gathered about 10 African men and took them to Poka’s church at Khokhlo-ntso.  Kind of funny, Jim dropped me off in the middle of nowhere with these men while he went back into the village to get some more.  They spoke basically no English. Fortunately, I just happened to bring 2 American footballs.  That was interesting!!!!!

Finally, Jim showed back up with a few more men and I started the conference.  I started out with a discussion about David’s mighty men.  Trying to get these men to be strong and of good courage as they spread the word among the Basotho people.  Johan finally showed up with a few more men from another village and we wound up with 22 total African men.  I continued training until noon and then we broke for lunch.  Lunch among these people is interesting.  They seem to really enjoy eating just about anything you have to offer.  They did not disappoint, they eat everything we took.  Very fun serving these people.

After lunch, Johan preached on the love of the father.  Johan is a great preacher and man of God.  Have really enjoyed hanging out with him.  Johan is a man that comes over from South Africa, very often, to witness to the Lesotho people.  After Johan finished, I concluded the meeting talking about what love is and related it to the men and their marriage.  I was trying to get them to show love to their wives.  Something they typically don’t do…concluded with {There is no fear in perfect love}, a perfect closing of the event.  Finished the meetings by having the men sing.  WOW, incredible, be sure and ask me to watch the video I took on my phone.

Loaded all the men up with Jim and took them back home.  Got home, showered, and had another wonderful meal at the Floras.  Teresa is a great cook.  I like Teresa…Jim is a great preacher too….He gives a great devotional every night…  Prepping for 2 hour pony trek tomorrow.  God Bless all!!!

Update on the women’s conference…Carolyn, Libby, Carol and Katy had a full house, classroom at Mapaleng Secondary School.  They began in one room and expanded to two rooms at lunch time because the bo me (women) kept coming.  They had 127 all together.  They taught on God’s love being the “flag” or banner over their lives.  There are many flags that represent various things being sold in the rondavels in the mountains, some good, some not so good.  The women and school girls enjoyed making a reminder of this teaching by making a flag representing the plan of salvation.  The principal of the school graciously allowed the conference to take place and welcomed the teachings again in the future.  This is exciting to know that the door continues to be open to share the gospel in Mapaleng.

Tomorrow our team goes three different directions.  Rodney, Libby, Carol and Katy will pony trek to Fukamela.  Carolyn will teach anther women’s Bible study in Katse to about 15-20 women representing various villages in this area.  Stan will teach a Bible study to the men who work with LHDA (Lesotho Highland Development Authority.  Pray for us as we go many different directions to spread the gospel among the Basotho.  Thank you for your prayers.  We love you all.

Ha Mapeke & Ha Khanene

17 01 2012

We began another beautiful day in the Maluti Mountains by traveling to Ha Khanene to pick-up horses to pony trek to Ha Mapeke. We arrived, but no horses. We had planned to stop at Me Ma Tumo’s home and visit her. What a blessing to get to see her again, meet her daughter and check on her daughter’s little boy, Tsepo, who will be 1 later this month. So tiny, so precious and a blessing of God. Holding Tsepo was an opportunity to show this little boy the love of Jesus through our hands, our eyes, and our voice. We got to encourage Me Ma Tumo and she could not say “thank you” enough to our church family for the multitude of blessings that have come her way in the past six months because of God’s blessings upon our church. Remember the horses? There might have been 2-3 an hour later. We began an abbreviated version of our teaching for the day in Me Ma Tumo’s area around her rondavel. The people listened as the team taught about God’s love through several Bible teachings, songs and skits. Finally, the horses had all arrived and we all got on our horses and started on the journey to Ha Mapeke. Everyone did great on the pony trek. We stopped for a quick lunch at a creek and then continue on up the mountain to Ha Mapeke. We visited this village on our second trip to Lesotho. It was a blessing to be back again. The team presented the chief with a gift and began the teachings. The people were so excited and engaged in the teaching by the team. They looked up the scriptures in the Bibles that you have helped to provide, they sang songs with us, and genuinely listened to the message God had for them. There was a good mix of men, women and children today.
Thank you everyone for your continued prayers. Tomorrow we will be in two different places as Rodney leads a men’s conference at Makoabane and the women lead a women’s conference at Mapaleng.
An end to another perfect day designed perfectly by our Heavenly Father. “Thank you, Father, for continuing to put opportunities before us to share, to love. Please continue to use us for your glory as we are a part of your plan in reaching the Basotho in Lesotho.”

Pastors and |Wi…

16 01 2012

Pastors and |Wives Conference today.  Only four wives but what an intimate wonderful  time we had together studying the Book of Ruth.  We laughed, we cried, we ate together and we made promises to God together.  We talked about God’s sovereignty and his love.  The women giggled a lot as we talked about the love and honor they owe their husband.  Fifteen pastors in training sat under the teaching of Rodney and Johan. They learned about David’s strength, courage and his heart for God.  They too talked about their marriage relationship.  The afternoon ended with the groups coming together to write Courageous Commitments to the one true God.  It was incredible and we cried together as they read aloud the promises they made to God today.  Some strong Basotho men had tears in their eyes as they read.  Those who could not write, stood and orally stated their commitment.  Jim and Teresa shed tears as they witnessed this surprise event.  Jim ended with scripture and a short message encouraging the men and women to stay true to the words they shared today.  Then they began to sing, dance and praise our Lord.  We clapped our hands and shared an awesome time of worship with these precious saints of God.  The day ended all too quickly.  We all long and wish for more and more moments together.

Yesterday was a day of worship in Maruti  Phoka’s  church.  Those who had never experienced this worship were in awe and those who had were blessed beyond measure.  The church was packed with more than had ever attended and the food ran out as many from the village came and brought their children as they found out that food was available.  There were over a hundred children who stayed to participate in the activities and teaching with Katy.  As team members finished their parts in the conference, they went outside to help with all the children.  There were over fifty in attendance at the conference in the afternoon and some came to say that they understood that they must pray, share and invite others.  Your team was exhausted, but very happy when this day was complete.

To families back home, Libby and Rodney send their love to all their girls and families.  Katy sends her smiling greetings to her friends and family.  She wants them to know that she is safe and did not die on the airplane.  Carol says over and over again, “I wish Don was here.  I know Don would love this.  I wish Don could see this.” –  She’s not thinking of you at all.  Danny, I really missed you today as I shared with the women about your awesome love for me!!  Thanks for allowing me to be here with these precious people who are so loved by God.  Stan says to Angie, Kylan and Kamber, “Thanks for all your love, support and help in allowing me to return to Lesotho again.  I love you.”  To our church family, “We feel your prayers, we feel your love and we feel your encouragement.  Thank you. Thank you.”

Pray that the Holy Spirit will stir up a great longing in the hearts of the Basotho to hear, learn and accept the message of the one true God proclaimed by your team. “Stepping out for God always involves steps of separation. This is no time for cowards or the fainthearted. We need courage. The life of courage will see what others can’t see and believe what others can’t believe. Courage is a pattern and a path that will keep us going when all around us are falling and failing.  It’s time to put on the shoes of faith and take an incredible journey with God.”  Courageous Living
13 – Pray for strength and safety in the long hours of travel. Pray for divine appointments in airports, airplanes and along the road from South Africa to Lesotho. “By faith Abraham went out, not knowing where he was going.”
14 – Pray for the tired bodies of your team members that they may experience joy and refreshment as they arrive in the Flora’s home for the evening meal, unpack and prepare for an amazing day tomorrow at Phoka’s Church.  Pray for quick adjustment to time change and a good night’s rest.  Take my yoke upon you and you will find rest for your souls for His burden is light.
15 – FIRST EVER Evangelism Conference!  Schedule includes services at Phoka’s Church, pot luck lunch, and evangelism conference with adults.  Katy and Flora girls will “corral the children” with a fun teaching time themed “Super Kid”.
Please pray for Basotho Christians to be courageous as they learn and commit to reach their family, friends and neighbors for Christ. “Be strong and courageous for the Lord thy God is with you wherever you go.”
16 - Pray for your team members today as they seek to build strong, intimate relationships with Basotho pastors and their wives by providing a one day retreat – men and women in different homes for Bible Study of David and Ruth. Pray especially for the afternoon session – coming together to write a “Courageous Commitment” that will be read aloud in front of each other which will be a surprise upon the ears of our precious missionaries who are entertaining fears of how our Lord’s work will continue and prosper while they return to the states for furlough.  “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:6-7
17 – Pony trek to the village of Ha MaPeke – a new ministry village where God is doing a mighty work bringing many to salvation in a short time. This will be the first opportunity for FBC to visit this village. Pray as we teach “Creation to the Cross” from the perspective of LOVE (a word that does not exist in the Sesotho language).  How do we teach a nonexistent word?  YOU PRAY.  GOD LEADS!  THANK YOU.
18 – Mapaleng Women’s and Teenage Girl’s Conference (200 expected) First ever Men’s Conference at Makoabane teaching On “David’s Mighty Warriors.”  Pray that these men will understand that strength and courage are gifts found in the one true God.  Pray that many men will desire to come and listen. Pray that your team will be able to relate to women and teenage girls in the same conference as we study 1 Cor. 13 and the love and provision God provided for Esther, Ruth and the Woman at the Well.  Pray that these females will understand , feel and KNOW God’s LOVE for them individually today! “I have loved you with an everlasting love.”
19 – Pray for your “divided” team today.  Stan leads a bible Study for government workers in Katse. Special invitations have gone out to 15 women for a small group Bible Study on the book of Ruth led by Carolyn. Rodney will lead the others pony treking out to teach Love Creation to the Cross in another village. Pray for listening ears and open hearts in every place we set our feet – that as God promised Joshua, He will also give to us and bring all whose lives we touch this day to Himself for His Glory alone!                                                                                                                                   20 – An amazing opportunity today for your team to share God’s love with 400 to 500 students at the Bokong School.  After a Bible lesson on 1 Cor. 13, the students will have opportunity to see this love through the testimony of Rodney and Libby who will paint a picture of how God’s love works in their marriage and home.  The afternoon will be spent painting and decorating Phoka and ‘Me MaNeo’s bedroom.  this pastor and wife are faithful and work diligently to visit church members, sharing Christ and taking Christ to neighboring villages.  Pray that your team will minister to all today as unto Jesus.  That all will see how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.
21 – Today your team will minister to about 100 women through a Women’s Conference at Makoabane again sharing God’s love for women teaching on 1 Cor. 13 and Bible women. the men will enjoy a day of sports themed activities at Kantine’s village.  Pray that this fun day will reach many men through Biblical concepts teaching the “Christianity Game.”  Pray that your team members will today run the race set before them not looking behind but focusing their eyes on Jesus.
22 – Khokhoba church – second ever Evangelism Conference.  worship, potluck, conference and children’s ministry!  Pray that your team will share not only the story of Christ, but share in a way that encourages the new believers to share – that we will share practical, easy ways to share Christ so they can do it without Jim and Teresa, some even without a Bible.  Pray that the concept of going to make disciples will be clearly shared, understood and implemented.  “He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
23 – Traveling mercies today as your team makes its way down the mountains to the capitol city of Maseru to MAF headquarters and dinner with the Shutts.  Pray that our hearts will be full of joy at the work completed and expectant about the ministry to be completed at the orphanage, God’s Love Center.
24 – Pray that your team will today be the hands and feet of Christ as we share His heart with the precious orphans.  Christmas party and gifts should bring excitement to this place.  “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless if this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
25 – On the road again – back to Joburg!  We have proclaimed to the Basotho what we have both seen and heard of the Father.  Pray that in these last days our fellowship will be sweet and our joy complete.  Pray that God will continue to stir the hearts and minds of all those who have heard His message and that they will believe and follow the one, true God.
26 – Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.                                                                                       27 – Back home in Texas!  Thanking the Lord for all He did before we arrived in Lesotho, while we were there and what He is going to continue to do.  Pray for rest and time of reflection for team members.
